Navy to procure additional 'DRIFIRE' flame resistant garments
Apr '09
DRIFIRE, LLC President and Chief Executive Officer L. Gene Cone announced that the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) significantly expanded its authorization for Naval Aviation Commands, including Marine Aviation Commands, to procure a greater variety of DRIFIRE garments through open purchase or through GSA.

The DRIFIRE Performance and Flame Resistant Uniforms that have received approval to date include the company's silk-weight T-shirts and silk-weight boxer shorts, both of which were previously authorized for purchase last August, as well as the addition of silkweight long sleeve T-shirts, silk-weight long pants, mid-weight T-shirts, mid-weight long sleeve T-shirts, and mid-weight long pants.

Established in 1966, NAVAIR is the successor of the Navy's Bureau of Naval Weapons. An integral part of the United States Navy, NAVAIR provides materiel support for naval aircraft and airborne weapon systems. The organization estimates some 24,000 pilots and support personnel such as re-fuelers, gunmen, and navigators, will be the primary potential adopters of the approved and authorized-for-purchase DRIFIRE flame resistant apparel.

"The men and women of NAVAIR work hard and they need safety garments that are able to keep up to them. Our performance garments are going to help them keep cool in the summer, warm in the winter, but most importantly, dry, comfortable, and safe," said Mr. Cone of DRIFIRE.

Since the initial authorization, DRIFIRE has received countless testimonials from military men and women who have tested the company's line of Performance FR garments. Among these endorsements are the following:

"... I'm a cobra pilot and so have to fly with fire resistant clothing, and your product is much more comfortable than cotton, especially on the long days." LtCol J. Jenkins - CO, HML/A-269.

"... Your garments felt the same the second day wearing them as they did when I put them on the day before... very comfortable and truly impressed by the drying time..." L. Christensen, Helicopter Pilot.

"I am currently forward deployed in Iraq and just got to try out some of your gear. I love it, it is awesome stuff. I fly in Helicopters as an Aerial Gunner and I also am an Avionics Technician for them as well... thanks so much for the great gear you produce and keep up the good work." Zach Polite, CPL USMC HMM 161 Avionics IRAQ.
