The Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) of European Commission for non-food categories has issued consumer warning against two Chinese textile products; scarf under the brand name of 'L'Asessor' and China-made children jackets on April 24, 2009.
Finland has filed the suit with regards to the scarf and Greece has done it in the case of the children's jackets. The scarf is manufactured with viscose fabric and its size is 170x67 cm with commodity number STI/AN/VG3037.
As the commodity contains azo dyes, which are banned in the European Union and contains Benzedrine with content of 180 mg per kg and Dimethoxy Benzedrine 230 mg per kg, both higher than the 30 mg per kg, permitted under EU rules.
With regards to the children's hooded jackets, Greece has taken objection to a flexible ring around the neck and therefore carries a risk of strangulation, due to which the jacket does not confirm to the EU relevant standards of EN14682.
At present, Finnish Customs have refused to clear the scarves and in the case of jackets the manufacturers and importers of the jackets in Greece have taken the initiative to take corrective measures to remove the defect.
