Chinese textile & clothing export juggernaut regains steam

The Chinese textile juggernaut was down and out for only a few months and has now once again reverted back on to the track of positive growth figures, when compared with the previous months as well as also has been able to successfully reduce the negative y-o-y growth figures with each passing month, particularly, beginning from the month of March and now in to April too.
In its exports to its biggest market; the US, China has been able to export textile and apparels amounting to US $ 6.41 billion in the first quarter of 2009, compared to $6.62 billion in the same period of 2008, to record a negative growth rate of just 3.17 percent. This is in stark contrast to double digit negative figures recorded in the last few months of 2008 and the beginning of 2009.
Out of the total textile and apparel exports, clothing shipments amounted to $4.56 billion in the period under preview when corresponded with $4.42 of the same period of 2009, to clock a growth rate of 3.09 percent. It was only poor export figures of non-apparels, which brought down the overall growth rate and saw it recording a negative growth rate of 15.50 percent in the period under consideration.
In sharp contrast are the export figures from the same sector from another competitor; India. Exports of textile and apparels fell to $1.47 billion from $1.29 billion in the periods under review to garner a negative growth rate of a massive 12.11 percent. Of this, shipments of apparels fell to $855.28 million to register a negative growth of 9.00 percent, while non-apparels posted an awesome loss of 17.58 percent.
