Indonesian garment exporters expect recovery in Q3
Jun '09
The Indonesian Textile Association (API) predicted that in the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal year its garment exports to the US, which was impacted badly by the global financial crisis, would recover on a faster pace.

The US President Barrack Obama administration's commitment to disburse industrial stimulus package has lent a helping hand to the garment sector, said Vice-President of the association Mr. Ade Sudrajat Usman.

The US market still carries vast potential given its huge per capita consumption, though it has dropped briefly, he said, adding that many buyers came to Indonesia to explore new orders for baby cloths, cotton blouse to trousers.

The US buyers had explored ASEAN markets to place additional orders in early June, with Indonesia receiving the bulk of the orders as the biggest market amounting to around US $300 million, added Mr. Usman.

These buyers represent 22 of the top global scale buyers and more buyers from the European Union, Japan and the Middle East are also expected to follow suit with more such additional orders.

These favourable conditions will help the country's textile exports to recover at a faster pace in the fourth quarter too, when compared to the initial projections made in the beginning of the year.
