Apparel retailer CTC opens distribution centre in Coteau du Lac

Canadian Tire Corporation and GENCO Distribution Systems (GENCO) celebrated the grand opening of the new 1.5 million square foot Distribution Centre earlier in Coteau du Lac, Quebec. Quebec Premier Jean Charest joined Stephen Wetmore, president and CEO, Canadian Tire and Herb Shear, president and CEO, GENCO to officially open the facility and celebrate this important milestone. Now fully operational, the world-class GENCO Distribution Centre has the capacity to process up to 55 million cubic feet of throughput per year to supply Canadian Tire stores in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
Located 45 minutes outside of Montreal, the construction and build-up of the facility took approximately 23 months and created work for approximately 900 tradespeople. Featuring state-of-the-art technology and material handling systems designed to sort and ship inventory arriving from more than 1,000 suppliers, the new distribution hub ensures quick and effective delivery of product to Canadian Tire stores in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.
"Canadian Tire continues to experience strong growth, creating the need for a centrally-located distribution hub that will enable us to efficiently ship products to our stores so customers can get the products they want, when they want them," said Stephen Wetmore, president and CEO, Canadian Tire Corporation.
"With 94 stores and more than 10,000 employees across the province, Quebec is an important market for Canadian Tire and is an ideal location for this state-of-the-art facility. We are pleased to expand our relationship with GENCO to include the day-to-day operation of the appropriately-named GENCO Distribution Centre," Wetmore added.
"We are honoured to once again be selected by Canadian Tire and have the opportunity to expand our relationship," said Herb Shear president and CEO, GENCO. "We look forward to providing ongoing value as we operate the most advanced distribution centre in all of Canada and to being an important member of the Coteau du Lac business community."
Quebec is an important market for Canadian Tire and has been since the first store opened in 1939 in Rouyn, Quebec. This new facility represents a $240 million capital investment in the Coteau-du-Lac community and the creation of 600 full-time and 300 part-time jobs.
GENCO Distribution System is North America's 2nd largest and a Global Top 50 third-party logistics provider and the recognized leader in Reverse Logistics.
