Project571 launches Eco-Friendly College Apparel line

Project571 is proud to announce the launch of the first line of college apparel made with all eco-friendly materials and compensating providers using fair trade practices. Colleges and universities all over the country are being graded on their own carbon footprints, their use of sustainable resources and adherence to Fair Trade. Project571 (five oceans, seven continents, one planet), a new Midwestern company, is working to fill a void by offering college-supporting organic clothing that is trendy, fashionable, fair and earth-friendly.

All of Project571's products are made from organic cotton, recycled polyester, naturally occurring rayon or a combination, printed with environmentally friendly inks, and manufactured by wholesalers who adhere to Fair Trade standards focused on workers that are treated and compensated fairly. The result is college apparel that's superior in every way - soft, stylish and safe.

"People love the idea of going green. There's no reason why they can't help support the environment and their favorite university at the same time," said Michael Wheeler, president of Project571. "Our research shows us that students, fans and alumni are more than ready for eco-friendly college apparel," he continued, "but they also want their organic clothing to be soft, wearable and trendy. We found too that fans don't necessarily want to wear some sort of 'eco-symbol' alongside their school logo. What we bring to the table is our continual search for latest organic clothing that's comfortable and eco-friendly."

Project571 is clearly on to something. In just ten months, more than seventeen major universities and colleges have licensed with Project571's organic clothing line; and more are signing up every month. "We're excited by the reception we've received and hope that colleges and universities from every state will license with us to offer their supporters premium organic clothing with their school's name proudly displayed in eco-friendly ink, and ultimately the chance to do something good for the planet," says Nathan Dean, vice president of operations.

As soon as they see and touch it, people understand that premium organic cotton looks and feels better than conventionally grown cotton, but they may not know that it's better for them as well. Here are the facts: conventionally grown cotton accounts for more than 25% of worldwide insecticide use and 10% of the pesticides. Pesticides used on cotton are among the most hazardous and can cause cancer, headaches and other health problems especially in infants and young children. They also wash into the soil and eventually make their water into our water supply. That's why using products like organic cotton, recycled polyester and naturally occurring rayon is so important for our health and our world.
