A member delegation from the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) met the Finance Minister, Mr AMA Muhith and demanded that a stimulus package be declared along with other measures.
While giving out the details of demands put up with the Finance Minister, the President of BKMEA, Mr Hoque said that, they had demanded a 5 percent stimulus incentive on FOB value of exports, to weather the storm of economic crisis.
He said, they had also requested that bank interest rates should not climb beyond 10 percent and also allow 70 percent advanced cash withdrawal from the banking system against our export claim certificates.
The BKMEA chief complained that banks do not go by the government directive on re-scheduling facilities and ensuring such facilities, can help tap the potential of the global knitwear export market.
Mr AMA Muhith assured the delegation that the garment sector problems and demands will come up for discussion at the second meeting of the taskforce on recession, due on September 15-16.
