Australian sports apparel company KooGa will design, manufacture and launch a new Qantas Wallabies playing kit early next year under a major sponsorship and licensing agreement announced by Australian Rugby Union.

KooGa has joined ARU as a major partner in a four-year deal, starting from 2010, as the Qantas Wallabies' official apparel provider, replacing previous long-term partner Canterburyafter a valued 10-year association.

The KooGa contract includes supplying the Qantas Wallabies with a unique, high-performance jersey for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Incorporating the latest in fabric technology and design, the jersey will be officially unveiled in January 2010 and ready for use next season.

“We are delighted to have KooGa on board and look forward to the first public showing of the Qantas Wallabies jersey they have been working on for some time,” said ARU Managing Director and CEO John O'Neill.

“The launch is planned for January and, until then, it will be a matter of wait-and-see with a sense of anticipation for everyone.

“From an ARU perspective, we are already delighted with the levels of commitment and creativity shown by the KooGa management and staff, and appreciate the utmost importance they are placing on this relationship.

“I would also like to thank Canterbury for their long service to Australian Rugby.

“It has been a beneficial and enjoyable partnership on both sides.

“Canterbury joined us in 2000; the year after the Wallabies won the Rugby World Cup in Europe.

“The opening years of the partnership included Bledisloe Cup titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002, a series win over the British Lions in 2001 and back-to-back Tri Nations titles in 2000 and 2001.

“We trust our new partner KooGa will have the opportunity to share with us a similarly successful period.”

KooGa CEO Kim Brant said his company was delighted to secure the Qantas Wallabies contract and have the privilege of designing the national team's jersey.

“The winning design will not only give the Wallabies a distinct performance edge on the field, it is also a design that embodies the tradition of this famous jersey,” he said.

“I can't tell you how proud we all are to be given this honour. Our respect for the history of the Wallaby jersey is immense. To be part of its future is our company's dream come true.”

Canterbury Australasia CEO Scott Chapman says that Canterbury is proud of its long and positive association with the Wallabies.

“Canterbury has been associated with the Wallabies for 15 of the last 20 years and we plan to continue to invest in Australian rugby at other levels where possible in future” he said.

KooGa currently outfits more than 1200 teams across the three oval-ball codes in Australia and overseas, including Super Rugby team the Queensland Reds, NRL clubs the Newcastle Knights and Melbourne Storm, the NZ rugby league team and the Fijian and Tongan rugby union teams.
