Skill Development Training: Govt to extend its co-operation

The government is of the view, to extend its support in skill development training through private partnership. Just providing employment to the trainees is not enough; hence, Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) should preferably come forward to prepare a database in this respect.

Stated, Md. Ataharul Islam, Secretary of Ministry of Manpower and Employment, while, addressing the graduates of the Vocational Training Institute of DAM during a Certificate Awarding Ceremony.

DAM Vocational Training Institute had organized a Course and Certificate Awarding Ceremony of Skill Development Trained Graduates of Vocational Training Institute for Working Children (VTIWC), in association with German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

Md. Ataharul further informed that in order to impart training to the under-privileged people, several dormitories comprising of all the required facilities will be built. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) should come forward to facilitate the implementation process of such programmes, he stated.

Since 2001, DAM is conducting the training courses, wherein around 1,320 trainees have received training till date. 1,303 out of 1,320 were employed in a number of garment factories, informed DAM President Mr. Kazi Rafiqul Alam.

This course lends hand to poor and unskilled workers in a bid to improve their standard of living by offering them employment in the garment industry, he added.
