In spite of high prices, Jamdani saris with their fine texture and elegant colours are attracting myriad visitors in the ongoing India International Trade Fair. This 15 day long trade fair, which opened on November 16, is witnessing participation of 20-odd Bangladeshi exhibitors.
Many of these exhibitors are from textile houses, who have brought a new product, produced by mixing silk with the traditional Jamdani cotton, which appeals to people due to its shiny appearance. Cost of most of these Jamdani saris ranges between Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000.
Apart from Bengalis, members of other Indian communities are also interested in purchasing Jamdani saris and there is much qualitative awareness among the buyers about these saris, said an entrepreneur.
