Final closure of Bonds Wear Cessnock clothing factory, in the New South Wales Hunter Valley, on December 18, left over 70 workers without jobs. Pacific Brands had earlier announced in February of its intention to close down the factory and shift the business to offshore centres.
Only 12 factory workers have got jobs, while the job prospects for remaining workers are very few, which will leave long lasting impact on the community, said Cessnock MP Mr. Kerry Hickey. Training should be given to these workers, he added.
The factory, which had been operating since 1950's, had been a major employer of women working since 30-40 years.
