Garment exports from Guangzhou which is one of the biggest textile and clothing hub in China are on a downward curve, ever since the economic turmoil unfolded in the last quarter of 2009.
In the period January to November, clothing exports from Guangdong touched US $20.11 billion, down 12.5 percent compared with same period last year, according to statistics from Guangzhou Customs.
In the fourth quarter too, apparel shipments of Guangdong continued to decline. Overall exports from the textile and clothing sector in November achieved a positive increase, but clothing exports continued to be weak at $1.86 billion, down 29.1 percent year on year and 2.9 percent from the previous month.
Based on the data of the fourth quarter, exports of each single month in the fourth quarter have declined from the third quarter. With tapering orders for Christmas and New Year, the situation of garment exports also hardly looks optimistic in December.
