The textile, clothing and footwear sector is euphoric over the decision of the government to allocate $300,000 towards promotion and marketing activities of its products, since now they stand a better chance of garnering growth in the next three years.
Ever since the economic turmoil unveiled in the last quarter of 2008, the TCF sector of Fiji has been deeply impacted and job losses are estimated at around 1,000, along with a 25 percent reduction in export revenue.
Minister for Industry and Trade Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum, had made the announcement about allocating a budget at the 'Make it in Fiji' marketing awareness campaign in October last year but the Memorandum of Understanding was signed recently.
The objective of the activity is to increase total annual exports to over $150 million and to employ over 6,000 people in the industry within the next three years. The industry currently employs over 4,000 people, 80 per cent of whom are women.
