The Bangladesh textile and apparel sector is facing a very distressing situation due to a severe disruption of gas supply, which has led to a drastic cut in production in most of the manufacturing units from the sector.

According to an expert, the textile industry accounts for 70 percent of gas consumption of private sector industries and the gas supply has now been reduced to around 50 percent of its requirements, which is hampering smooth running of units.

According to him, there are a few processes in the textile industry which require 24-hour uninterrupted supply of gas; otherwise, quality of the goods along with quantity of the produced goods gets affected.
