Jan '10
At a press conference at Sheraton Hotel, Dhaka President of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Abdus Salam Murshedy remarked that unlike in the past, they experienced a positive attitude from India.

Following the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India accompanied by 50 business leaders, the Bangladeshi apparel exporters expect an opportunity to be exposed to a wider market in India.

They also informed regarding India's assurance to hike duty-free import of Bangladeshi garments from current eight million pieces to 14 million pieces per year. Furthermore they also informed about their intentions to arrange single country trade fairs in major cities of India to demonstrate their capacity.

At present India's domestic retail market is valued at $27 billion accompanied by a yearly growth rate of 18 percent, informed, Fazlul Hoque, President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association and added that the size of India's retail apparel market and its growth rate were astonishing.

Major General (retired) Amjad Khan Chowdhury, chief executive of Pran-RFL, who is the biggest Bangladeshi exporter to India, is also positive about strong business opportunity in India. At the same time he even believes that Bangladeshi apparels will find a strong market in north-east regions of India.
