It has been decided to bring the country's main export earning apparel sector under the gas rationing system. The decision was taken as a result of the RMG and textile sectors leader's meeting with Hossain Mansur, Chairman of PetroBangla at his office.
The move to ration gas for industrial and domestic utilization followed as a result of increased pressure on Mansur from RMG and textile sector. Industry alleged that it made repeated pleas to Hossain Mansur to improve gas pressure in preceding two weeks.
Not only industrial but even household users were facing difficulties due to low gas pressure resulting out of disparity in its demand and supply. Thus finally, Petrobangla choose to ration gas to ease the situation. A Petrobangla official informed that, for this purpose, Dhaka and its adjacent regions have been parted in seven different zones.
In pursuance of the meet, Abdus Salam Murshedy, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, informed that they have consented to adhere to the decision to ensure a comfortable gas supply to industries and households and for this purpose have accepted to suspend production in their factories for a day in a week.
