Bangladesh Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) in association with the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and with the assistance of the Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) organized the first Bangladesh trade show, 'Showcase Bangladesh 2010' in Malaysia.
Syed Moazzam Hossain, Secretary General of BMCCI and Chief Coordinator of the event, said that, the business leaders of BMCCI had requested the government to boost up the diplomatic negotiations with the Malaysian government to arrange for duty free access of some 19 Bangladeshi products in Malaysian markets.
He confirmed that they have succeeded in convincing the prominent Malaysian government officials for the same and added that, now it is Bangladesh government's obligation to take the matter further.
The Malaysian government has orally agreed to consider about the duty free access of products like, jute products, frozen food, knitwear, woven garments, leather and leather products, pharmaceuticals, footwear, ceramics and textile products.
Elucidating the success of the event, Hossain stated that the event provided a chance to the Bangladeshi exporters to showcase and promote their products in the Malaysian market and that this will serve as an initiator for accelerating the mutual trade relations.
BMCCI members and their Malaysian counterparts have entered into two MoUs, one for RMG products and the other regarding the electronic banking transaction services, he informed.
