Further lay-offs in Stirling Group

Altrincham-based swimwear and lingerie supplier 'Stirling Group' has axed a further 36 workers, after the company was placed into administration. These redundancies made at Stirling Group, are the outcome of its ongoing cost assessment, said Mr. Bill Dawson, a partner in the reorganization services practice at Deloitte.

The redundancies are mainly related to the administration staff, he added. Almost 200 were employed at its head office in Atlantic Street in Broadheath, and 50 more in Nottingham. But, at present, around 120 people have been retained in the firm with an expectation of finding a buyer.

Stirling had been impacted hard due to the recession and financial challenges, which also took its toll on the economy as a whole, said Mr. Dawson, who was appointed as joint administrator with Lee Manning on January 22.

Following Deloitte's appointment as an administrator, around 47 employees were made redundant. Taking into account the future of rest of the staff in Stirling, Deloitte was taking active efforts to search for more options for a sale, he added further. The group has annual turnover of more than £100 million and has operations in countries such as Sri Lanka and India.
