The US based, National Retail Federation (NRF), which is the world's biggest trade body has requested the Australian government to sort out the issue of mulesing wool.
It wants the Australian government to work on a time-bound schedule to phase out the practice of mulesing wool and keep the NRF and other retailer bodies informed about the same.
According to NRF, the confusion arose from the time, the Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) backed out from the original proposal, to keep a deadline on phasing out the same.
The retailer's body emphasized the fact that they would not like to be in cross-fires of a campaign by animal activists and at the same time, the timing would also not be correct to charge a premium for unmulesed wool.
