The Vietnamese textile and garment industry, with the slow passing out of recessionary trends, is experiencing a sudden increase in the number of orders. Most of these orders in hand with the sector, will last them through the end of the second quarter.

According to a couple of industries, the numbers of orders received in 2010 are far greater than in 2009 and therefore they are choosing the financial sound ones on a priority.

In order to complete these orders on time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade urged the textile and garment industries to amplify productivity by almost 12 percent and export US $10 – 10.5 billion worth of goods this year.

According to Vice Director General, Vinatex Group, Le Tien Truong, these positive trends are a result of the extra efforts put in by the local producers who are locating new markets, and also tapping the smaller ones such as Turkey, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He also said that, Vietnamese industries have succeeded in exporting materials such as cloth and polyester fibre to these markets.

However, Truong refrains from being over confident, when he says that, the industry is currently facing certain challenges that have risen due to shortage of workers. In addition, the sector will also be in tremendous pressure by the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA), USA, as it holds producers responsible for any damage incurred to consumers from any quality defects in products.

To cope with this problem, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has decided to develop state-of-the-art laboratories, to test quality of textiles and garments. With an attempt to increase productivity and up-grade technology, Vinatex group, will invest over VND 1,100 billion.
