Drivers of cab operator, Blue Bird Group, will soon be wearing batik uniforms as part of the company's attempt to reinforce its identity amongst strong competition in the sector.

With their uniforms intended to represent the rich Indonesian culture, these cab drivers could also turn into ambassadors for tourism, suggested, Vice President (Business Development), Noni Purnomo.

While sealing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with batik manufacturers, PT Batik Danar Hadi, Purnomo also said that, donning cab drivers with batik uniforms will be an initiative from their side in preserving the country's rich culture.

While, about 50,000 cab drivers of Blue Bird Group will be provided batik uniforms by the end of this year, drivers of Silver Bird limousine taxi service will be changing over to batik-themed uniforms in a span of next two years.

After UNESCO termed batik as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, the popularity of batik printed fabric has increased; as a result, people are seen wearing batik print garments at their workplace and at private occasions.

Designer, Chossy Latu, who is designing the uniforms, has chosen traditional batik motif over the contemporary batik motif. Explaining his choice he said that, the traditional motif is a Javanese motif that comprises of elements which, will indirectly bring out the Blue Bird image. More so, the motif of rice (food) and cotton (cloth) within this Javanese motif depicts welfare.
