OLYMP takes over jumper manufacturer MÄRZ

In 2010, MÄRZ München AG is celebrating 90 years of consistent knitwear expertise in the ladies' and gent's sector, as well as exceptional quality and long-standing expertise in all types of woolen products. Embracing the slogan "Quality is our respect for the customer", the MÄRZ company was established in1920 by the entrepreneurial husband and wife team Thea und Wolfgang März.

The company's knitting expertise and the exceptional wearability of its products received undisputed, expert endorsement in 1953 when MÄRZ kitted out the team members of the legendary Himalayan Expedition to Nanga Parbat/Tibet with specially produced woolen jumpers. It was certainly a wonderful achievement for the company when mountaineer Hermann Buhl succeeded in making the first solo ascent of the summit of this mountain wearing a MÄRZ jumper.

In 1956 MÄRZ became official outfitters to the German ski team at the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo/Italy. A luck pfennig was sewn into each jumper, which also led to the skier Ossi Reichert being able to take the gold medal in the giant slalom for Germany in a MÄRZ jumper.

Following 70 years of successful production in Germany, a new MÄRZ knitwear production facility was constructed in the heart of the Hungarian Puszta, in the town of Hódmezósvásárhely near Szeged in the South East of Hungary. Here the high standard of quality was also able to be maintained through the company's own production plant and with expert support from the exceptional German knitting experts.

In 2003 MÄRZ acquired the European Patent (EP 0945079) for the specially developed knitting process for the MÄRZ Man Classic range. The export ratio is 16 percent.

In 2004 a phase of company restructuring, market research, product analysis and redefinition of the MÄRZ customer target groups took place. This led to the development of a new marketing concept and a contemporary corporate design, which characterises this premium brand.

OLYMP Managing Director Mark Bezner is henceforth the new principal shareholder and substantial partner of MÄRZ München AG and intends to integrate and achieve synergy between the leading German shirt brand and the long established premium jumper brand to secure further joint market shares in the international textile sector in the future.

MÄRZ München AG currently has three main product ranges for knitwear and these will also be continued consistently in the future:

MÄRZ classic represents the basics or essentials sector. This range is designed particularly for those who are looking for classic items with a contemporary interpretation. This relates equally to the business sector and the everyday sector, as well as the leisure area.

MÄRZ impression is a range which reflects the personality and lifestyle of the modern female or modern male. Seasonal trends provide the focus for the collection. With this contemporary collection, MÄRZ would like to make the brand more youthful and secure new buyers groups.

MÄRZ active links in with the sporting history of the brand. This collection appeals above all to those people who are frequently on the move. This fashion is casual, contemporary and has a light-hearted feel to it. The collection includes sports themes relevant to the target-groups, such as skiing, tennis, trekking, golf, walking and outdoor activities.
