Matches for the 2010 football World Cup scheduled to begin two days from now will see soccer players donning technologically advanced sportswear from the many key sportswear global brands. The sportswear features compression fabrics and absorption sports pads, among many other functional features.

Between them, these companies are providing national uniforms to most of the football national teams. Amongst the claims made by these brands are that the soccer players will be able to run faster, jump higher and stay cooler during the course of the matches.

Here, it may be recalled that a performance enhancing swimwear suit had helped swimmers break world records, but was latter banned by the World Swimming Federation (FINA), though it was the one which gave the approval in the first place.

Detractors of these functional and what are also called performance enhancement uniforms say that it will not create a level-playing field for teams that cannot afford these sportswear. Only time will tell whether this performance enhancing sportswear will help which football team to win the World Cup.
