Despite the pleas of the Ministry of Labour to await outcome of pending negotiations, the Free Trade Union of Workers of the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTU) has planned to hold a three-day strike in the month of July.
Chea Mony, head of FTU sent a letter mentioning that the union which represents around 86,000 workers would go on a strike beginning from July 13 for three days to pressurize the government to raise the minimum wage from US $50 to $70 per month.
This call for a strike has come just a fortnight after the ministry's Labour Advisory Committee exhorted union members to consider staging a strike only if attempts to negotiate a new minimum wage did not fructify.
