JanSport, the original outdoor gear Brand that equips people globally with quality backpacks, travel gear and collegiate apparel, today announced its partnership with International Mountain Guides (IMG) based out of Ashford, WA. The partnership will leverage the experience of IMG's world-renowned guides, providing JanSport with a means to test its newest technical outdoor gear. As part of the agreement, select IMG guides will be expert contributors on JanSport's recently launched outdoor blog, Be Outdoors, sharing their insight and knowledge about everything from gear recommendations to trips, training suggestions and more.

In addition, IMG will lead JanSport's annual Rainier Seminar, a 38-year-old tradition that brings together 16 individuals from around the globe to summit Rainier, a 14,410-foot mountain in Washington. From retail buyers to JanSport home office and international employees, to media and outdoor industry friends, this life-changing adventure personifies JanSport's outdoor heritage and authenticity.

“It is a privilege to partner with long-time friends and climbing partners Eric Simonson, George Dunn and Phil Ershler,” says Skip Yowell, JanSport co-founder. “This dream team started guiding on Rainier in the early 70s and has guided more people to the summit of Mount Everest than any other in the industry. This year's JanSport climb team couldn't ask for a finer set of guides to lead them on their journey to the summit of Rainier.”

The JanSport Rainier Seminar introduces many new climbers to the world of alpine mountaineering, hiking nearly 18 miles roundtrip and gaining 9,000 vertical feet, creating memories and forging friendships that will last a lifetime. Beginning June 19, 2010, all 16 JanSport Rainier Seminar Climb participants will embark on the Brand's 38th annual trip to Mount Rainier. After arriving in Ashford, the climbers will be split into two teams of eight to depart on their adventure up Rainier's famed Emmons and Disappointment Cleaver routes. The Emmons group is slated to reach the summit of Rainier on June 22, and the Disappointment Cleaver team on June 23. All IMG Seminar participants will be outfitted with the new JanSport Pro Series Tahoma backpack, the perfect lightweight, technical pack engineered for any alpine adventure.

These multi-day summit climbs will be led by partner and chief guide, George Dunn, and seven other IMG guiding experts divided equally amongst the two climbing teams.

“I've known and worked with Skip and the JanSport team since the mid-1970s,” says George Dunn, IMG partner and chief guide. “It is always great to get up on Rainier and put into practice what we are preaching.” Dunn has put a lot of practice into Mount Rainier over the years. He is the undisputed record holder for summits of Mount Rainier. His current tally is 496 successful summits.

Whether climbing Mount Rainier or any other peak around the globe, IMG's experienced guides will be outfitted with JanSport's new Pro Series packs. Inside their retail store, IMG will also carry JanSport's entire collection of technical outdoor packs, including its new Tahoma and Ascent, in addition to JanSport tees.
