Ready-made garment accessory and carton manufacturers have put up a few demands with the government to help the sector achieve growth, which includes incentives and pull-back of some policies.
The industry has urged the government to withdraw the 15 percent VAT imposed on rentals and the bank guarantees needed to import raw materials and demanded to be treated on par with units functioning out of export-processing zones.
Rafez Alam Chowdhury, president of Bangladesh Corrugated Carton and Accessories Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCCAMEA) put up these demands while addressing a press conference.
According to him, the sector has the potential to touch US $3 billion if incentives are provided by the government. He however, lamented the fact that, successive governments had ignored the industry.
