Textile quotas ruling the world trade for over 40 years finally ended five years ago. But textile and garment companies face greater risks in post-quota era. Many textile and garment enterprises do have such feelings with frequent barriers put up by the United States and Europe, which has given rise to a feeling that, the end of quota system does not mean the advent of free trade.

Director of Textile Test Department of Export & Import Inspection and Quarantine, in Hangzhou, Chen Yan says, “Some Chinese-made children's clothing are frequently recalled from the US and European markets, as safety requirements of Europe and the United States on kid clothing are continually increasing.

Main reasons are failures of physical safety and chemical safety. Of which most are due to unqualified small parts, like rope and button, which are easy to cause choking dangers and other hidden problems to children. Now the EU and the US have increase harsh standards on apparel imports, Chinese enterprises have to adapt their requirement amid growth.”
