The Brandix Group completed an enterprise-wide Greenhouse gas inventory in 2008 and calculated its carbon footprint according to the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (WBCSD/WRI) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The audit covered more than 85 emission sources at Group companies, subsidiaries, Brandix-managed joint ventures and associate companies, and indicated total CO2e emissions of 86,322 MT per year.
Energy efficiency projects undertaken by individual companies in 2009 alone resulted in a collective reduction of 1,800 MT of CO2, about 7 per cent of the Group's total carbon footprint. Brandix expects to have reduced its Group-wide carbon footprint by a further 10 per cent by the end of 2010, and has set itself an overall target of reducing its carbon footprint by 30 per cent by 2012.
Brandix's commitment to environment-friendly manufacture has already won local and global recognition. In 2009, the Group was presented the Energy Globe Award, the world's most prominent and prestigious environmental prize, for its Green Factory at Seeduwa. In 2007, Brandix Finishing Ltd., (BFL) Ratmalana won Gold at the prestigious International Green Apple Environmental Awards presented at Britain's House of Commons for its efforts to achieve zero disposal of solid waste to landfill.
The pioneer of the concept of 'total solutions' in Sri Lanka's apparel sector, Brandix is a preferred solutions provider to some of the world's leading apparel brands, including Gap, Marks & Spencer, Victoria's Secret, NEXT, Lands' End, Abercrombie & Fitch, Old Navy and Tommy Hilfiger. The Group specializes in casual bottoms, intimate and active wear, textiles, knitted fabrics, sewing and embroidery thread, accessories and hangers, and also offers wet processing and finishing and fabric printing.
