Cintas Corporation announced the availability of a new eco-apparel option for the housekeeping department. Designed with the environment in mind, Cintas' Velocity collection has been reinvented to include a 60/40 recycled polyester/polyester blend fabric. This is one of several eco-friendly collections by Cintas to be introduced for housekeeping this year.
“Housekeeping is often the largest department in a hotel,” said Todd McKeown, vice president of hospitality at Cintas. “By converting our existing collections into eco-apparel, housekeepers now have a choice that supports their hotel's green initiatives. Using eco-friendly garments in the housekeeping department substantially broadens a hotel's environmental commitment.”
To develop recycled polyester fabric, plastic bottles are diverted from landfills, broken down into polyester fiber and woven into wearable fabric. Approximately seven bottles are recycled in the construction of each Velocity uniform garment.
Maintaining all the original fabric's features was a primary focus for Cintas when converting the Velocity line. The recycled polyester used in the new garments still has moisture wicking properties and provides optimal comfort for the wearer while adding soil release properties – all must-haves for the active job responsibilities of a housekeeper. In addition, the new fabric retains the same durability as the original fabric blend.
“Eco-apparel is no longer an option just for the front desk,” McKeown added. “When a hotel selects eco-friendly fabrics, the housekeepers know they are doing something to benefit the earth. The owners appreciate knowing that by outfitting one of their largest departments in eco-friendly fashions, they are enhancing both the appearance and sustainability of the brand.”
Cintas currently has 24 eco-friendly apparel options across suiting, casual and housekeeping. And the line continues to grow. By September, the company aims to offer 35 styles, adding garments for doormen, event staff, housekeeping and more.
