A new virus battery based on new cathodes made from an iron-fluoride material is under development and would soon be find a place in the uniforms and ballistic vests of the US Military.
The virus, which is called M13 bacteriophage, consists of an outer coat of protein surrounding an inner core of genes.
Power for high-tech devices, such as handheld radios, GPS devices and personal digital assistants can be produced from the batteries woven into clothing. These batteries are environment-friendly and are lightweight and flexible.
