Sactwu to promote locally-made clothing among sports bodies

In a bid to discuss the local procurement of South African clothing, the SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) called for meetings with national organizations for cricket and rugby.
The union stated that, it called the SA Rugby Union and Cricket SA bodies for meetings, to discuss the issue of local procurement of clothing, textile and leather industry products in view of the projected cricket and rugby world cups to be held in 2011.
The local textile and clothing industries of SA received several business opportunities on account of the world sports events to be conducted next year in countries such as New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, informed SACTWU.
The General Secretary of the Union, Mr. Andre Kriel stated that these provide the chance to harness the power of sport to generate jobs and develop the economy.
