New Tanger Outlet Center to provide 800 jobs in Mebane
Sep '10
Located just 30 miles from Raleigh and Greensboro on Interstate 40/85, the new Tanger Outlet Center in Mebane, North Carolina is scheduled to open on November 5, 2010 just in time for the holiday shopping season. With North Carolina's unemployment rate hovering in the 10 percent range, Tanger gave North Carolina's Triad and Triangle job seekers an early Christmas present.

Tanger held a regional job fair on September 16. More than 3,300 people turned out during the day-long event to fill out applications and meet with representatives of many of the 80 outlet stores that will fill the new Tanger Outlet Center when it celebrates its grand opening this fall. Approximately 800 full and part-time, retail management, sales and other positions will be available at the new Tanger Outlet Center.

"The turnout was far more than I would have imagined," said Lu Ann Austin, District Sales Manager for Phillips -- Van Heusen who will operate the Bass, Van Heusen and Izod outlet stores at Tanger in Mebane, North Carolina. "Job candidates were not only excited about finding a sales or management position but also about the tremendous economic impact that Tanger and our stores will make on their community. They made us feel very welcomed to the City of Mebane."

Jason Wilson, Store Director for J. Crew, found plenty of qualified job applicants. "We have already hired 15 positions," he commented. "People were looking for jobs and we were extremely happy to provide them."

The $60 million, privately funded Tanger Outlet Center in Mebane will bring a collection of popular outlet brands for North Carolina brand name bargain hunters to enjoy. Among the stores coming to Tanger in Mebane include Banana Republic Factory Store, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Coach Factory, Izod, J. Crew, Le Gourmet Chef, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store, Nine West, Reebok, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Talbot's, Tommy Hilfiger and many more.

"Especially now, it is extremely gratifying for Tanger to be building this $60 million, privately financed outlet center shopping attraction here in our home state of North Carolina," remarked Steven B. Tanger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers, Inc. "Being able to also create such a positive economic impact with these 800 jobs plus the millions of dollars in sales and property taxes the center will generate for the region and state, makes this development project very special to our company."
