Online luxury retailer Gilt Groupe, Inc. announced that it has opened a distribution center in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The facility will consist of 303,000 square feet of space to house men's and home merchandise the web site sells.

The opening of this facility, the largest to date for Gilt Groupe, will allow for the creation of over 100 new jobs in the Louisville area over the next nine months.

"We are very excited to welcome this well-known, fast-growth company to our region," said Joe Reagan, President and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce. "These new jobs, many working with cutting-edge robotic equipment, will benefit the entire community and further strengthen Louisville's position as a leader in the distribution and logistics industry."

"This move to Louisville gives us an opportunity to introduce new technology and material handling infrastructure to improve our customer service," said Christopher Halkyard, vice president of operations, Gilt Groupe. "Use of robotics, conveyor systems and mechanical sortation equipment will assist us as we convert to a best in class fulfillment operation. We are confident we will find an employee base of talented men and women."

Gilt Groupe has hired Quiet Logistics as its fulfillment company for this center. Quiet's responsibilities include the hiring and management of the warehouse staff.

"Louisville is great place for e-commerce fulfillment," adds Bruce Welty, CEO, Quiet Logistics. "The combination of geographic location, UPS delivery infrastructure and a very talented workforce make this site ideal for delivering the high levels of service that e-commerce customers have come to expect. We're pleased to be a partner in this strategic facility."
