Hosiery industry in Ludhiana is doing extremely well, and has marked its presence in local as well as international markets.

Hosiery firms here are really generating good revenues, with traders praising favourable weather conditions for such high demands.

The hosiery industry in Ludhiana can trace back its foundation back by over 100 years. The industry which generates revenues of over 85 billion, embraces within itself around 12,000 to 14,000 small-scale and large-scale units.

The industry each year generates over Rs. 70 billion from the local markets and from exports it is able to fetch almost Rs. 15 billion. The industry directly and indirectly employs around 400,000 inhabitants of Ludhiana.

Around 90 percent of the hosiery industries in India are concentrated in Ludhiana. Also mounting profits of the industry, are enticing an increasing number of companies to venture in the industry here.

In spite of that, yarn prices have gone up by 20 to 25 percent, the yarn, fabric and garments traders are still booking profits of around 15 to 20 percent.
