A composite RMG unit is going to be established, next year with an investment of Tk1000 million in Bangladesh by the Giant Group, which is a local export-driven company producing ready-to-wear garments. Last year, the Giant Group had exported readymade garments worth US $20 million.

The building foundation laying ceremony took place at the factory site located at Baniarchala of Bhabanipur area in Gazipur district. A bank has provided a loan of Tk700 million for the company's new venture.

The formal operation of the unit is expected to begin by April, 2011. The company also anticipates a knitting capacity of 20,000 pieces per day in the initial stage of the unit's functioning.

The factory is expected to produce 50,000 pieces of woven apparel per day when it begins its full-fledged manufacturing process by September, 2011. Some of the latest eco-friendly machines are likely to be engaged in manufacturing high-quality apparels for brands such as Next, Nike and Tesco.

Once, the factory becomes completely operational, it is anticipated to provide employment to 5,000 workers.
