Eastern Mountain opens new store in Avon

Eastern Mountain Sports, one of the nation's largest outdoor retailers, will host a grand opening of its newest location in Avon, CT on October 15-17, 2010. After 9 years in Simsbury, Eastern Mountain Sports has moved to a larger location at Avon Marketplace. The new, 14,400 square-foot store is nearly double the size of the former location and features an expanded boat department, a climbing gear test area, as well as a full-service bike shop. These improvements complement an extensive selection of outdoor apparel and gear for backpacking, camping, climbing and hiking.

"For 22 years, our staff of experienced athletes in the Hartford market has been preparing our customers for all kinds of outdoor adventures," said Will Manzer, CEO of Eastern Mountain Sports. "With more products to choose from and an upgraded shopping experience, we look forward to exceeding the expectations of every outdoor enthusiast who walks through the door of our new Avon store."

Store Manager Michael Lloyd added, "Connecting to the local community through outdoor sports and conservation has always been important to us. We're excited to build on our existing relationships within the local community and to build new partnerships with like-minded organizations."

A grand opening community celebration will take place October 15-17, with a portion of the weekend's proceeds donated to Connecticut Forest & Park Association. Since 1895, CFPA has been working to protect forests, parks, walking trails and open spaces for future generations by connecting people to the land; CFPA has been instrumental in the acquisition of more than 100 state parks and forests for public use and enjoyment.

Kayaking is the signature sport of the Avon store with an extensive selection of boats and accessories for recreational paddling, sea kayaking, and fishing. The selection of gear and apparel available at the new Avon store includes Eastern Mountain Sports' proprietary products such as its outerwear layering system SYNC and Techwick, its versatile, moisture management base layer. Like all other Eastern Mountain Sports stores, the new store will have experienced Foot Gurus, sales associates specially trained to analyze feet and to custom fit athletic footwear.

Founded in 1967 by two New England rock climbers and based in Peterborough, N.H., Eastern Mountain Sports is one of the nation's leading outfitters of outdoor gear, clothing, footwear and accessories with 64 retail stores in 12 states. Eastern Mountain Sports designs and sells products for outdoor adventurers who participate in a variety of sports, such as mountaineering, backpacking, camping, hiking, adventure racing, climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and snow sports.
