New athletic apparel deal between Harlem & Russell

When the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters tip-off their 85th consecutive year of touring the world, they will be wearing some of the latest innovations in athletic gear, as the team has inked an agreement with Russell Athletic.
The three-year deal–which runs through 2013–makes Russell Athletic the official uniform, practice gear and travel gear provider for the world's most famous basketball team and leading family entertainment show. Under the agreement, Brooks will be the Globetrotters' official supplier of casual footwear, and Bike is the team's official provider of athletic training supplies.
“Russell Athletic has been a trendsetter in athletic gear for over a century,” said Peter LaPointe, Globetrotters senior vice president, partnership & marketing. “Its innovations in athletic apparel make it an ideal clothing partner for a team that travels to more than 200 cities in North America each year.”
Russell Athletic is the sixth major sponsor to partner with the Globetrotters for their 2011 world tour, following the recent announcement of a three-year, seven-figure travel partnership with Greyhound Lines. The all-star rookie lineup joins a well-established veteran team of sponsors that includes Howard Johnson Hotels, America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses and Spalding–each of which renewed their partnerships with the iconic team–and long-time partner Campbell Soup Company, currently in the midst of a three-year renewal with the Globetrotters.
The Original Harlem Globetrotters will celebrate their 85th consecutive year in 2011, continuing a world famous tradition of ball handling wizardry, basketball artistry and one-of-a-kind family entertainment that continues to thrill fans of all ages. The Globetrotters have showcased their iconic talents in 120 countries and territories on six continents for hundreds of millions of fans, breaking down cultural and societal barriers while often providing fans with their first-ever basketball experience, earning induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
