Currently, the second-hand garment business is witnessing a boom in Lagos, around two months ahead of Christmas. Since the demand for such garments are high, the business dealers are not prepared to change their business because of high profitability even when these clothes are legally prohibited from being offered for sale.
Poverty is one of the main reasons which forces most of the Nigerian people to buy second-hand garments as they cannot afford new garments.
New garments are usually expensive and one can buy more second-hand garments with the same amount of money that is charged by a seller for a single new garment.
The price for a pair of new Jeans ranges between N3,000 and N4,000 whereas a pair of second-hand Jeans costs N1,000 or even less than that, depending upon the quality.
Despite the large number of second-hand cloth sellers, the business has continued to remain profitable as the number of buyers is also high to support the business.
