Apparel imports witness fall for four consecutive months

As per the records of the Japan's Ministry of Finance, apparels worth 216.14 billion Yen has been imported by Japan till September, registering a drop of 3.9 percent in comparison with the imports during the same period, the previous year. It has recorded a fall for four successive months.
Amongst the various Asian countries, import of apparels by Japan from China registered a decline by 4.9 percent to 187.32 billion Yen. However, apparel imports from other countries of Asia like Thailand, Vietnam, Burma, Bangladesh and Indonesia witnessed a growth. Japanese import of apparels from ASEAN touched 15.3 billion Yen, indicating a rise of 7.8 percent.
Import of apparels by Japan from Europe saw a persistent decline. Apparel imports from Italy registered a drop by 8.3 percent to 3.44 billion Yen. Apparel imports from the European Union remained at 5.3 billion Yen, registering a drop of 10.1 percent.
Japan's apparel import volume witnessed a decline of 3.8 percent to 357.16 million pieces, in the month of September. The quantity of import from China decreased by 4.9 percent to 323.34 million pieces whereas imports from ASEAN increased by 7.3 percent to 22.21 million pieces. The import volume from European Union was 0.69 million pieces, which dipped by 12.4 percent.
