The month of October this year saw Sri Lanka's export earnings rising by 27.6 percent to USD 802 million, from a year ago.

This is the third highest in terms of export value that has been ever recorded during a particular month. Considerable export earnings from textile and clothing contributed to this rise, apart from the export revenues of agricultural crops.

The Central Bank recently revealed that the country's collective earnings from exports during January to October, 2010 grew to USD 6,505 million which is a year-on-year rise of 13.2 percent.

The industrial sector turned out to be the largest contributor to the surge in exports during October 2010, with a considerable rise in the revenue inflows from the textile and garments, rubber products and machinery and equipment sectors.

Also, a rise of 27.4 and 33.1 percent was noted in the garment export earnings to the EU and US respectively, during October 2010.
