Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) recently announced that it intends to start a skill enhancement programme in the garments sector.

The programme, PRGMEA said, aims at the promotion of value-added industry of Pakistan, while searching for and seizing the new opportunities in the global market.

The garment sector strongly believed that, if the gap between the public and the private sectors could be minimized, it would facilitate development of the garments business, PRGMEA said.

The association even stated that if the provision for such an environment is offered at the earliest where all textile units are given the opportunity to compete, which is currently lacking in the country, it would help in boosting the country's exports of value-added garments. It has, thus, requested the government to extend appropriate assistance to the garment sector.
