After almost two years of recession, there is a sign of recovery worldwide, which shows the best in the East. For America and Europe the recovery still remains a bit fragile, but in most countries there is an gross national product growth. However, the situation with the banks is still precari-ous. This slows down the economical growth, but nevertheless, Harry van Dalfsen, International Apparel Federation – President, believes that it will not stagnate further growth in 2011.

I hope that you can look back on 2010 in a positive way. Despite of the economical growth that was not that great everywhere, business hopefully turned out well for you. The IAF kept growing in 2010 and we are very happy to welcome a good number or new members. With the plans and goals that were set during our IAF Convention in Hong Kong, I hope that we can accelerate the realization of these goals. I would like to inform you about the latest plans and developments of the IAF.

Location for IAF Convention 2011, we had a conference call with the last remaining candidate for organizing the convention and I expect that we will be able to make a final decision by the end of January. Our board member Alejandro Faes (as a past president of the Mexican Apparel Manufacturer Association) sug-gested Mexico as a location. We will in-form as soon as the final decision is made.

Trip to (South) America Our secretary general Han Bekke and I planned a trip to (South) America. It will be a tight schedule, that will bring us alongside Mexico City, Medelin (Colombia), Sao Paulo (Brasil) and Washington and is planned for the last week of February and the first week of March 2011. At this moment, I am busy contacting strategic people from our IAF network, in order to get appointments with the right persons of prestigious companies and brands. Our goal is to gain new and strategic members and knowledge for the IAF. As our trips includes Mexico, we will also take the opportunity to make some preparations for the convention.

Trip to France, Italy and Germany Aim-ing at the same goal, I am planning a simi-lar trip to France, Italy and Germany, in April 2011. I will combine that with a visit to IFTF (International Federation of Fash-ion Technology Institutes) 11th – 14th April in Paris. For this trip, we also are already contacting people from our net-work.

The International Apparel Federation is a politically neutral global association, open to entrepreneurs and executives from the apparel chain worldwide. Its membership includes national clothing associations and companies whose core business is sourcing, designing, development, manufacturing, distribution, and retailing of apparel products. In addition the IAF welcomes, as associate members, educational institutions and companies that supply textiles, accessories, equipment, technology, and services to the apparel industry.
