Bangladesh outnumbers Sri Lankan garment units by ten times

S.S. Sarwar, Group Director – Global Operations, CEMS-Global, while speaking at the launch of the proceedings of the second Textech Exhibition on textile and garments to be organized in Colombo during March 3 to 5, 2011, recently stated that, as compared to Bangladesh's garment sector with about 9,000 garment units, Sri Lanka's textile and garment sector is quite small with just around 800 garment firms, and that is the reason why they are not looking forward to have too many exhibitors.

The fair is being held by the CEMS-Sri Lanka, which is a branch of the US based CEMS-Global. Sarwar revealed that it is a global exhibition organizing firm, which branched out in Sri Lanka during last year, when they successfully organized the first Textech. A majority of the exhibitors would be representing the foreign firms, and it is because of the strong potential of this show that they are in the country to be a part of the same.

Textech Sri Lanka 2011 is actually an exhibition that incorporates three exhibitions, namely the Dye+Chem Sri Lanka 2011 on dyes and speciality chemicals, the Textile Garment Technology and Machinery as well as the Yarn and Fabric Show 2011, which all would be held simultaneously, Sarwar said.

The Textech, DyeChem and Yarn & Fabric shows constitute the CEMS-Global's International series of Exhibitions, which are held under the same name in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
