Much to the relief of clothing retailers, US consumer spending trends on fashion and clothing have picked up in 2010. After witnessing a fall of around five percent in 2009, it rose by 1.9 percent from a year ago.

The men's apparel market is once again leading the growth with a gain of 3.3 percent against a decline of 5.6 percent in 2009, closely followed by the women's market which was up 2.9 percent (-5.0 percent in 2009).

The childrenswear market proved to be disappointing with a negative growth of 3.6 percent. However, volume wise it increased by one percent.

Women's categories like skirts topped the growth charts, up almost 13 percent and growth in the dresses segment too ascended by nearly four percent.
