Chief Executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Tariq Iqbal Puri, who recently paid a visit to Japan, while talking to the APP revealed that, AEON, the leading retail chain of Japan is to send a delegation of top level buyers to Pakistan to survey the possibilities of buying goods for their outlets from Pakistan.

Tariq was a member of the Pakistani delegation headed by President Asif Ali Zardari which paid a visit to Japan from February 21 to 23.

He revealed that, AEON operates 4,500 stores in Japan and has considerably high annual turnover. Also he stated that, during the visit, he together with the Secretary Commerce, Zafar Mehmud and other Pakistani entrepreneurs, convened a meeting with the AEON President, Motoya Okada.

President Asif Ali Zardari too met Okada to convince the latter that AEON should buy goods from Pakistan, the TDAP Chief said.

He stated that, AEON would send the survey team before the start of their buying season in October. They would start gearing up for this visit in July, as TDAP sends a group of Pakistani exporters to visit the Japan Fashion Week, Tariq said.

Further, he even revealed that, as the Japanese importers are now shifting their procurement to other countries due to rising commodity prices in China, the Pakistani President urged them to procure textile items from Pakistan.

The Japanese importers, as such, may consider procuring those textile goods from Pakistan for which they get a better price and quality advantage, as compared to the ones offered by other countries in the region, he concluded by saying.
