Ban on sale of second-hand innerwear takes effect

The Ghana Standards Board (GSB) last year imposed a ban on import and sale of second-hand undergarments which was to become effective from February 2011.

The traders of second hand items have thus urged the GSB to review its decision because it is likely to jeopardize their trade.

However, Kofi Amponsah Bediako, Head of Marketing and Public Relations at the GSB has said that, the decision is final and will not be reversed. The banned items represent eight percent share of country's overall imports.

He said that, still if the dealers seek to get the law repealed, they should approach Parliament and formally request the House to review the same.

Nevertheless, Amponsah Bediako said that, GSB is not going to restrict sales of those goods which have been already imported into the country.
