Dickies, the leading global work wear brand, has announced that the 19th annual Dickies American Worker of the Year will be nominated and selected by the brand's Facebook fans for the first time in the contest's history.

For 19 years, the Dickies American Worker of the Year program has rewarded hard-working Americans who are committed, determined and lead by example. Past honorees have included an oil field roughneck, farmers, builders, teachers, an electrical lineman and soldiers. In 2010, Theresa Voss, a neuro-intensive care nurse from Rockford, Ill., was selected as the Dickies American Worker of the Year. Previously, a panel of judges reviewed nominations and selected the honoree each year.

“Dickies created this contest to recognize a person that impacts their community by exemplifying the American spirit of hard work,” said Mike Binnie, president of Williamson-Dickie USA. “We have turned the contest over to the public so everyone can vote for the person they admire and respect. We look forward to finding out who online fans think best represents the American Worker of the Year.”

On Dickies' Facebook page from May 2 to May 30, fans can nominate themselves or someone they feel represents the American Worker of the Year by submitting a video, a series of photos or a short essay. From June 13 to June 27, fans will be able to vote for one of five finalists. On Independence Day (July 4), the finalist with the most votes will be crowned the 2011 Dickies American Worker of the Year.

The American Worker of the Year grand prize winner will receive $50,000 and each of the remaining finalists will receive a new Dickies wardrobe.
