Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen has proposed that Ghanian companies can make use of Sri Lanka's garment industry technologies to upgrade their apparel manufacturing.

The proposal was put forward by the Minister during his meeting with the visiting Ghanian High Commissioner to India and Sri Lanka Robert Tachie-Menson,

Both sides discussed the possibilities of developing their bilateral trade further. Although the volume of Ghana-Sri Lanka trade is small at present, the total trade between the two countries has grown by 260 per cent during 2005-09. The Sri Lankan exports to Ghana also saw a 272 percent increase in the corresponding period.

The World Bank has projected that Ghana would be the fastest growing economy in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2011, after the discovery of offshore oil deposits and the subsequent joining of Ghana in the list of African oil exporters in January 2011.
