Japanese clothing imports skyrocketed in March, according to statistics releases by the Japan Textiles Importers Association.
March apparel imports leaped to ¥189.12 billion, up 25.1 percent year on year, while volume wise too, it rose sharply by 17.9 percent to 367.5 million units.
China ranked first among all countries in garment imports with a value amounting to ¥154.46 billion, up 27 percent and walked away with a market share of 81.64 percent of overall Japanese clothing imports.
Among other countries, imports from Vietnam stood at ¥10.10 billion, up 49.5 percent, Indonesia ¥2.46 billion, a rise of 66.6 percent and Myanmar ¥2.05 billion, a marginal increase of 1.3 percent.
However, clothing imports from India, Thailand, Bangladesh and South Korea fell 3.5, 2.6, 13.6 and 12.2 percent respectively.
