The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) welcomed the introduction of the U.S. Optimal Use of Trade to Develop Outerwear and Outdoor Recreation Act of 2011 (U.S. OUTDOOR Act, H.R. 2071).

Introduced by Representative David Reichert (R-WA) and co-sponsored by Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) on June 1, 2011, the U.S. OUTDOOR Act would eliminate certain duties on recreational performance outerwear.

“Knocking down barriers to trade is one way the U.S. apparel and footwear industry is able to maintain its competitive edge in the global marketplace,” said AAFA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “Swift passage of the U.S. OUTDOOR Act would help propel the U.S. outdoor apparel industry to the next level as they develop new and innovative high-tech gear to be enjoyed by outdoor recreational enthusiasts all around the world.”

“With the leadership of Representatives Reichert and Blumenauer, along with the strong advocacy efforts of the Outdoor Industry Association and others, I am hopeful the U.S. OUTDOOR Act can be passed as soon as possible,” said Burke.
